The Mirror (I)
Acrylic on canvas, oil pastel an pencil / 81 x 65 cm / 32 x 26 inches
This painting is part of the Sacred Time collection. The collection gets its name because summer is conceived as an invisible temple: a time of year when we look at ourselves and undertake a change. It is a spiritual time, where the everyday is dressed in ritual.
Therefore, each work in the collection incorporates elements that border on the magical and the symbolic. In The Mirror, the horses represent life, as recalled in the novel Memoirs of Hadrian. The waves and spirals evoke classical figures, inspired by the frescoes of the Palace of Knossos, where myth and ornament intertwine.
